Giovanni van Bronckhorst handed Michiel Kramer his first start up front for Feyenoord, and the striker nearly opened the scoring after a few minutes but his close range header wasn’t strong enough to beat Kostas Lamprou.
The goalkeeper was also on hand to deny Karim el Ahmadi as Feyenoord dominated the first period, but just before the break Willem II squandered two great chances with Kenneth Vermeer stopping an Erik Falkenberg shot with his fingertips, while also denying Lesley de Sa with a fantastic tackle after the winger raced on goal.
El Ahmadi struck the post early in the second half, before Feyenoord eventually found the opening goal through substitute Eljero Elia. The winger raced onto Bilal Basacikoglu’s pass before smashing a shot past Lamprou.
The goal was enough to seal all three points, which lifts Feyenoord to third, while Willem II sit 15th and are still looking for their first win.
