fey dkdnLast week Fred Rutten’s side struggled to a 1-0 win over ADO Den Haag, despite playing against ten-men for an hour, and on Friday Feyenoord were once again looked sluggish at the start of the game. Heerenveen began much brighter, and without Jordy Clasie in the midfield for Feyenoord, the visitors were allowed a lot of space. Winger Luciano Slagveer burst through before firing just wide, while Hakim Ziyech saw an effort fly just past Erwin Mulder’s post.

The hosts began to find their rhythm as the first half went on, and goalkeeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt had to pull off fine saves from both Mitchell Te Vrede, and Tonny Vilhena, while at the other end Mark Uth nearly capitalised on an error from Mulder, who flapped at a cross.

Heerenveen came close to opening the scoring early in the second half with Slagveer striking the post, but on the hour mark the Frisian’s were reduced to ten men when Joey van den Berg was shown his second yellow for a foul on Ruben Schaken.

However despite having ten men, Heerenveen took the lead on 67 minutes, with reported Feyenoord target Hakim Ziyech firing an unstoppable free-kick into the bottom corner past Mulder.

The lead only lasted three minutes though as Lex Immers rose high to head towards goal, and after the ball came off both Nordfeldt and then Te Vrede it nestled into the net, with the striker claiming the goal.

For the last twenty minutes Feyenoord bombarded Heerenveen looking for the winner, but Nordfeldt was in terrific form to deny the hosts three points.

Feyenoord once again lacked ideas in the final third, and although they confirmed the signing of Colin Kazim-Richards on loan, they still need to find a clinical finisher to replace Graziano Pelle. Heerenveen were much improved from last weeks defeat to Dordrecht, but the increased interest in Hakim Ziyech is a worry, with the midfielder so important to the club.

The draw moves Feyenoord temporarily top, while Heerenveen claim their first point of the season.
