After defeat in Croatia two weeks ago it was crucial that Feyenoord gained all three points at De Kuip and they took the lead after only eight minutes when Karim el Ahmadi raced onto Colin Kazim-Richard’s header before firing into the top corner.
It was 2-0 for Feyenoord on twenty minutes as Lex Immers rose high to head in Jens Toornstra’s curling corner, and it could have been even more before the break but El Ahmedi wrongly had a goal chalked off for offside.
HNK Rijeka came close to halving the lead in the second half but Kenneth Vermeer denied Andrej Kramaric’s header, and Luke Wilkshire cleared the rebound off the line.
After wins against Standard Liege and Rijeka, Feyenoord now sit 2nd with six points while Sevilla sit two points ahead of them. Next up for Feyenoord is a home tie against Sevilla, which could see the Rotterdam side book their place in the next round.
