immersThe home side should have been ahead inside the first five minutes when Tonny Vilhena was played through one on one with Esteban, but the AZ keeper pushed the midfielder’s effort wide.

AZ against the run of play took the lead on 17 minutes, as Johann Gudmundsson got free on the right, and his cutback was easily finished by Aron Johannsson.

Stefan de Vrij sent the ball wide from a few yards out, while Esteban kept out Lex Immers, and Ruben Schaken as AZ continued to frustrate the dominant hosts.

Just after the break Feyenoord finally found the equaliser, with Mitchell te Vrede finishing from close range after Esteban spilled De Vrij’s powerful header.

Two minutes after the equaliser Feyenoord took the lead as Lex Immers headed a brilliant Daryl Janmaat cross low into the corner.

Immers missed a great chance to make it 3-1 then straight down the other end Daryl Janmaat tugged back Roy Beerens in the box, and AZ were awarded a penalty. Aron Johannsson made no mistake from the spot to level it at 2-2 on 58 minutes.

Feyenoord pushed for a winner, but an Immers header which looped onto the top of the net was the closest they could come with AZ defending brilliantly towards the end.

The point sees AZ Alkmaar remain in second, and miss the opportunity to retake first place from Vitesse, while Feyenoord move to 6th.
