Feyenoord put their first loss of the season behind them as they proved too strong for PEC Zwolle in De Kuip.

feypec-eredThe leaders went into the winter break with their title challenge looking shaky after two draws and their first defeat against Go Ahead Eagles.

Against PEC Zwolle, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side were looking to get back on track, but they started sluggishly and had to wait until the 25th minute for their first chance, with Mickey van der Hart saving from Dirk Kuyt. Nicolai Jorgensen then saw a header cleared off the line by Wout Brama, while Ted van de Pavert was lucky to escape unpunished after handling in the box.

Feyenoord pressure finally resulted in a goal just before the break with Kuyt heading Jens Toornstra’s cross into the net. The second goal eventually came in the 71st minute with Karim El Ahmadi outwitting van der Hart with a shot from distance, and then Toornstra settled the game with a low strike moments later.

The victory keeps Feyenoord two points ahead of Ajax at the top while PEC Zwolle are 14th.
