Kuyt has been a revelation since his return to De Kuip and the veteran striker led Feyenoord to victory once again on Sunday as they kept up with Ajax at the top of the table.
Feyenoord began the game on top and they deservedly opened the scoring on 13 minutes when Dirk Kuyt fired a measured shot past Coutinho from the edge of the area.
Five minutes later though AZ Alkmaar leveled the scores as Joris van Overeem slotted in from close range after Jan-Arie van der Heijden cleared the ball off the line. The goal gave the visitors confidence and before the break they gained opportunities through Vincent Janssen and Ben Rienstra, but goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer kept the scores level.
On the hour mark Feyenoord regained the lead in fortunate circumstances as Kuyt diverted Bart Nieuwkoop’s shot past Coutinho. Kuyt then sealed the win and his hat-trick from the penalty spot after Coutinho brought down Simon Gustafson.
Kuyt’s goals take him to the top of the Eredivisie scoring charts and keeps his side level on points with Ajax in first place. AZ sit 11th.
Right on track for the season. I hope for 25 points in the first 10 games, and that is what we got! The last 10 games are even easier and should be another 25 points. The middle section is key. Can we get 30 points out of these 14 games? That would put us at/around 80 for the season.
One last thing, can we get Botingha in the lineup over van der heijden? That is the one last move that should be made, prior to the winter transfer window of course…
