The hosts went into the game on the back of their cup exit to Vitesse in midweek and under pressure from Ajax, who easily defeated ADO Den Haag earlier on Sunday.
NEC started brightly and Mohamed Rayhi should have opened the scoring on four minutes but his effort from close range was brilliantly kept out by Brad Jones.
Eventually, Feyenoord found their rhythm and just after the half hour mark Eljero Elia set up Steven Berghuis to open the scoring. A few minutes later it was 2-0 with the ball landing at the feet of Elia in the box and the winger slotted into the bottom corner.
Feyenoord continued to dominate in the second half but they had to wait until the 87th minute to add their third goal as Bart Nieuwkoop’s cross was tapped in by Nicolai Jorgensen. In injury time the Danish striker scored his second with another simple finish from close range.
The victory maintains Feyenoord’s five point lead at the top while NEC stay 10th.
