Van Persie has been strongly linked with a return to De Kuip since the summer and is currently in talks with Fenerbahce about dissolving his contract in Turkey.

Speaking to RTV Rijnmond, Feyenoord director Martin van Geel confirmed he was doing everything he can to sign the 34-year-old this month. He said, “We have been in contact with his management for months now and also with Robin. That line is very tight, we are going to see if that works. It will have to be done under certain conditions. That he is welcome, a big player like Van Persie. That is for sure.

“Giovanni van Bronckhorst and his staff have spoken about this several times. As far as we are concerned, he is welcome at all levels.”
