The midfielder is out of contract this summer and had been expected to leave, but this week Feyenoord made a last ditch attempt to convince Vilhena to stay with talks over a new contract.
However, Feyenoord have now announced that they could not match the 21-year-old’s demands and Vilhena will definitely leave De Kuip this summer.
Feyenoord director Martin van Geel said on the negotiations, “It was a proposal that we have really tested the limits of Feyenoord’s capabilities. The wishes of Vilhena and his advisers, however, are at a level that is probably realistic in some foreign leagues but not for a club like Feyenoord. We wish Tonny success for the future.”
Vilhena is now expected to move abroad with clubs in England such as Leicester City and Southampton linked along with sides in Italy.
