Feyenoord came out on top on the Rotterdam derby after a comfortable 3-0 win over Excelsior in De Kuip.

kuyt krmThe home side dominated the early proceedings and were ahead after 21 minutes with Jens Toornstra finding Dirk Kuyt with a corner, and the veteran headed in his 17th goal of the season.

Just after the half hour mark it was 2-0 for Feyenoord as Kuyt won the ball back on the left, before finding Toornstra, and the midfielder earned his second assist of the game as he set up Eljero Elia to fire into the net from just inside the box.

Toornstra then made it a hat-trick of assists on 58 minutes as his scuffed shot was tapped in at close range by Kuyt for his second goal of the night. Michiel Kramer nearly made it 4-0 before the end, but the striker was denied by Tom Muyters.

The victory for Feyenoord moves them five points clear in third, while Excelsior sit 16th.
