Feyenoord’s performance in the KNVB Cup and De Klaasieker last week had given the Rotterdam side some much needed optimism leading up to the game against PEC Zwolle. However, from the beginning the home side dominated proceedings as Feyenoord once again looked a far cry from the side that was challenging for the title before the winter break.
After fifteen minutes PEC Zwolle deservedly took the lead with Lars Veldwijk racing onto Wout Brama’s pass before sliding the ball into the corner past Kenneth Vermeer. Minutes later Veldwijk once again raced in on goal but this time Vermeer prevented the striker.
Vermeer then denied Thomas Lam and Wouter Marinus, while Queensy Menig struck the post as PEC Zwolle poured forward, but before the break Sven van Beek leveled the scores by firing in Jens Toornstra’s corner.
Five minutes into the second half, PEC Zwolle regained the lead with Van Beek slipping in his attempt to stop Veldwijk, and the striker finished past Vermeer.
Feyenoord pushed forward looking for an equaliser, but Bilal Basacikoglu, Eljero Elia and Michiel Kramer all failed to find the net with good chances. In the third minute of injury time PEC Zwolle sealed the three points as Kingsley Ehizibue finished off a counter attack.
The victory keeps PEC Zwolle tenth, while Feyenoord slip to 6th.
