Finnbogason is currently the Eredivisie top scorer, after netting an incredible 11 goals in only seven games this season, making it 39 goals in 40 matches since joining Heerenveen in the summer of 2012.
A host of clubs were interested in signing the Icelandic international during the summer, including the likes of Celtic, Cardiff City, Werder Bremen, and Lazio. However no club made a successful bid, whilst Heerenveen also failed in an attempt to renew the 24 year olds contract with the club.
Now Newcastle United are the favourites to sign the goal machine, after the player revealed that the Premier League side made a late loan bid in the summer. Although this loan bid failed, Finnbogason has said he will consider the move if they return in January with a permanent offer.
Finnbogason told Icelandic football website 433.is: “I heard they [Newcastle] made a loan bid for me at the end of the transfer window but it was not an option for me to go on loan.
“If they make another offer I will consider it.”
