Erik joined Inter in 2016 when Roberto Mancini was still head coach, but then Frank de Boer took charge. The left-back was then immediately loaned to Besiktas.
Speaking to FCInterNews.it, Erik criticised De Boer, “I thought this was going to be my big break.
“I didn’t want to leave Inter, even when Roberto Mancini left, but De Boer’s attitude to me was awful. He left me off the team like I was some teenager, just graduated from youth academy. Unacceptable.
“Mancini let me play in the pre-season, had confidence in me. I was disappointed when he left. How De Boer treated me was completely disrespectful and it affected my career path.”
Erik does not understand why he was treated that way by De Boer, “I never understood that. I never got into his plans from the first day he set foot in Italy. I think he tried to manipulate me so that I would eventually leave.”
