Sparta Rotterdam held Fortuna Sittard to a 0-0 draw despite being reduced to ten men in the second half.

It was an emotional night in Limburg as the home crowd paid tribute to Fernando Ricksen in the first home game since the midfielder’s death. A minute silence was held impeccably by the crowd.

Sparta Rotterdam had the first big chance of the game but Hilal Dervisoglu saw his shot fly wide.

That proved to be the only real chance for either side in the first half in an even game.

Fortuna Sittard were more threatening after the break, while Khalid Karimi selfishly wasted a golden chance at the other end when Lars Veldwijk was waiting for a tap-in.

Adil Auassar saw red in the 82nd minute but Fortuna Sittard couldn’t take advantage of the extra-man and settled for a point.

Sparta are now 7th while Fortuna sit 17th.
