Georgios Giakoumakis may have netted again but it was not enough to prevent VVV-Venlo from losing 3-2 to Fortuna Sittard.

All eyes were on Giakoumakis after his four goals in midweek saw VVV-Venlo hammer Vitesse Arnhem.

However, Fortuna Sittard were not scared of the Eredivisie top scorer and they took the lead in the 33rd minute with Zian Flemming finding the net with a header.

In the 58th minute, Flemming was brought down and Mats Seuntjens netted the resulting penalty to make it 2-0. Five minutes later, Giakoumakis did find the net to pull one back for VVV and register his 21st league goal of the season.

However, Ben Rienstra eased Fortuna’s fears with a third goal, and although Torino Hunte pulled one back with a strike from distance, the hosts held on for the victory.

Fortuna Sittard are 11th while VVV are 14th.
