Leading 1-0 from the first leg, Ajax were given a right scare in the Czech Republic as Jablonec missed a second half penalty, before Riechedly Bazoer was sent off for his second yellow card. However Ajax held on for a 0-0 draw to progress to the next round.
Speaking to the official Ajax website, coach Frank de Boer said on what his team learned from the game, “It’s a good lesson about how you must play against these types of teams. Because getting aquainted with these types of formations and how the environments are in the actual games themselves is impossible to train for. ”
“We played much better tonight than in the home leg .You saw a lot more opportunism. I am pleased with the character that we showed after the penalty miss to continue to defend well.”
On the Importance of reaching the Europa League group phase, he added,”You see how important it is for the young players that you play these types of games .The mental pressure of two games a week .How the players cope with that ? With such experiences you can’t help but become a better player.”
