de-boer-inteDe Boer admitted the end of his time with Ajax still hurts him, with the club throwing away the title on the last day of the season, “I still cannot believe what happened away at De Graafschap on the last day of last season. It wasn’t just one player that played well under their level but many players.”

On his decision to then take over at Inter Milan he added, “It’s true I was planning to take a sabbatical after Ajax but I always said that if I receive a good offer from a nice club and not just for one season that I would go for it and that is the case here at Inter Milan. Here there is a normal hierarchy where people take responsibility for their actions and I like that.

“I am taking over from an Italian manager and there is a lot of pressure that I do not mind .Italy was world champion in 2006 and now must a Dutch manager show then how to play football so you have to find a balance for example it was very rare in Italian football that the medical staff and technical staff would sit in a room to discuss things and give their opinion.

“It’s a results-driven business and Inter Milan have not won much recently so we are trying to build and it’s a process. I feel that here at Inter Milan I do not have to push the players too much because they enjoy training and what they do by Ajax I sometimes had to push the players to do things.

“I read a lot about how things are at Ajax now. I would like to bring out the best of they way Ajax play and how Inter Milan play here in Italy but a manager must get time in order to achieve something of worth at a club.”
