Barcelona may be heading for the Europa League after they were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Benfica on Tuesday evening.

Memphis was the hero for Barcelona in Xavi’s first game in charge at the weekend with his goal sealing a 1-0 victory over Espanyol.

On Tuesday, Barcelona were looking for the win to seal their spot in the last 16 of the Champions League with Frenkie de Jong and Memphis both in the starting eleven.

Barcelona had the chances to take the lead in the first half but could not take them. Memphis got his best chance in the second half, but his effort was blocked. Frenkie also had a header well saved as the hosts could not break the deadlock.

The game almost ended in disaster for Barcelona but Haris Seferovic managed to miss a sitter in the final moments.

Memphis and Frenkie both played the full ninety minutes of the draw which means Barcelona now realistically needs to get a result against Bayern Munich in their final game. Barcelona are only two points above Benfica, who hosts Dynamo Kiev in their final group game.

Memphis and Frenkie may be heading for a place in the Europa League.
