Frenkie de Jong was happy with Frank de Boer’s decision to switch to a 5-3-2 formation in the 1-1 draw against Italy.

Speaking to NOS, De Jong said, “I thought it was good, the plan worked out well.”

De Jong felt the tactical switch meant he could take more risks in the midfield, “I could take more risks because I have three central defenders behind me. This way we keep more guys in the residual defensc, then I don’t necessarily have to stay in my position. That is different with only two centre backs. Today we have shown that we are a good team.”

We gave De Jong an 8/10 in our player ratings that you can check out by clicking here.
