On his 22nd birthday, De Jong played in his final Ajax home game before his move to Barcelona this summer. He helped his side win 4-1 over Utrecht which all but seals the Eredivisie title.
After the game, De Jong told Voetbal International, “After the match, the audience sang my name. That is very beautiful, I am very proud of that.
“I can look back on a great final game at the Johan Cruijff Arena. It was a fantastic season, both for me and for the team.”
De Jong still feels the disappointment of Wednesday’s Champions League defeat to Tottenham, “The processing will take a while. It is a kind of open wound.
“Whether this is the biggest disappointment in my career? Certainly. “
What a fantastic player. Sad for Ajax fans that he’s leaving, but at least we’ll continue to enjoy seeing him in Dutch orange in coming years.
Nothing would please me more than to see him take out his disappointment against England in the nations league next month. Won’t make up for the semifinal defeat of course, but would be very satisfying nonetheless 🙂
Such a talent been a joy watching him. Tho he says he doesn’t expect to play regularly his first season at Barca. He should IMO he would be one of their best mjds with aging players & sells. And I don’t see him having an issue adjusting.
He should be playing as much football as possible. To muvh if a talent to be in B squad.
