Memphis Depay has admitted he is frustrated with his situation at Lyon but is happy to once again be with the Dutch national team.

Since starring for the Netherlands during the UEFA Nations League matches in November, Memphis has had a frustrating time with Lyon. He has been openly criticised by the French media and was dropped for the win over Montpellier at the weekend.

Speaking to NOS about staying on the bench at the weekend, Memphis said, “I don’t know what the reason was, of course that is frustrating. But how good is it to report right after that match in the Netherlands, where you can play for your country? In a great team that has already achieved results and now has the confidence that we can extend that. How good is that?

“I come here the way I left last time: as a happy person, happy, always focused and eager, hungry for more good results. What is in Lyon, we should not make it bigger than it is. I am frustrated with the last few games, but they might be too.”

Memphis admitted he needs to look at himself, . “I don’t really look at the statistics, but I didn’t score for a while and I look in the mirror anyway. If you are in the attack, goals are expected. People ask why I don’t show the same game at my club as at Orange, but I don’t know what to say. I don’t have much to complain about.

“That I get dropped is something that annoys me, but I’m just going to show that I belong (In Lyon’s XI). That’s it . Now we are with the Dutch national team. It comes at a good time. “
