Verbeek will take on a dual role at the club, with the 55-year-old not only coach but also technical manager. He replaces the sacked Rene Hake in the Tukkers dugout.

Verbeek said, ”I am proud and happy to be the manager of FC Twente. It’s a shame my Father could not experience this as he passed away in January. We have roots in Enschede.

”When I was a 15-year-old boy. I used to sneak under the fence to watch FC Twente.

”Every person changes. I am not the same Gertjan Verbeek that started 17 years ago at Heracles Almelo. But my experience in Germany has heavily influenced me as a manager.

”We have a lot of work to do here at FC Twente.”
