Go Ahead Eagles are five points from safety after a 4-1 defeat at home to Heracles Almelo.

After the 8-0 defeat to Feyenoord in midweek, Go Ahead Eagles were looking to give their fans something to cheer but after only 14 minutes they were on route to another heavy defeat. Elvis Manu was adjudged to have handled on the line leading to a red card for the winger and a penalty for the visitors. Thomas Bruns slotted in the spot kick to make it 1-0.

Samuel Armenteros made it 2-0 from close range after Theo Zwarthoed parried Brandley Kuwas strike and then Kristoffer Paterson made it 3-0 on 21 minutes with a fine strike from the edge of the box.

Another 8-0 seemed on the cards but moments after the third Heracles goal Daniel Crowley pulled one back with a fabulous curling effort into the top corner. However, any chance of a shock comeback was ended two minutes before the break as Armenteros netted from the spot after a foul by Sander Fischer.

Heracles took their foot off the gas in the second half and didn’t add any further goals. While at the other end Sam Hendriks hit the post as Go Ahead searched for another consolation.

Go Ahead Eagles remain bottom of the table and five points from safety with only four games left. Heracles are ninth.
