Feyenoord’s unbeaten start in the Eredivisie has been ended by bottom of the table Go Ahead Eagles. The home side triumphed 1-0 in Deventer.

antoniaWith both PSV and Ajax dropping points this weekend, Feyenoord went into the game against Go Ahead Eagles, who had lost their last four games, looking to extend their lead at the top.

However, it was Go Ahead Eagles who started better and Darren Maatsen should have put the hosts in front, but after jinking his way into the box the winger blasted wide from close range. On the half hour mark, Go Ahead deservedly took the lead with Jarchinio Antonia tapping in Maatsen’s cross from close range after Jan-Arie van der Heijden lost possession in front of his own box.

Feyenoord, without Karim El Ahmadi and Tonny Vilhena struggled to create anything but they thought they had leveled before the break when van der Heijden stooped to head in Steven Berghuis cross. However, the whistle had already gone with Berghuis handling in the build up.

In the second half, Antonia nearly doubled his sides lead when he raced through on goal but his shot looped onto the roof of the net. Towards the end Feyenoord pushed forward but Theo Zwarthoed barely had a save to make as Go Ahead held on for an unlikely victory.

The defeat means Feyenoord are only two points above Ajax at the top now while Go Ahead move off the bottom and up to 14th.
