Go Ahead Eagles earned a 1-1 draw with Hungarian side Ferencvaros in the first leg of their Europa League first qualifying round tie in Emmen.

go ahead euroRelegated Go Ahead Eagles qualifed for their first ever Europa League due to UEFA fair play, but they were prevented from playing the first leg in their own Adelaarshorst stadion due to a rebuild. The match was relocated to Emmen and all the Go Ahead fans who made the hour journey would have been fearing the worst when Ferencvaros took the lead after just two minutes. After some poor defending from the Dutch side the ball was pulled back to Zoltan Gera, who made no mistake with his finish into the bottom corner.

After the goal Go Ahead Eagles pushed for an equaliser, but only a good save from Erik Cummins denied Gera his second. However on the stroke of half time a corner was headed into the net by Bart Vriends for the equaliser, and Go Ahead Eagles first ever European goal.

Ferencvaros should have found the winner in the second half, but Roland Varga screwed a shot horribly wide with the goal gaping, while at the other end Elsio van Overbeek saw a goal bound shot tipped over.

Go Ahead now travel to Hungary for the second leg next week knowing they will need to cancel out Ferencvaros away goal, while the game will be played in an empty stadium due to a UEFA sanction.
