The Deventer club have earned only one point from their last five matches and the 3-1 defeat to rivals PEC Zwolle on Sunday appears to have sealed De Konings fate.

Technical manager Dennis Bekking said on the club website, “The results of recent months gave no reason to believe that the downward spiral could be reversed,”

De Koning took charge of Go Ahead in February 2016 and he led them back to the Eredivisie through the play-offs. However, since a decent start to the season the club now find themselves bottom of the table and with a difficult run-in. Assistants Harry Decheiver and Michel Boerebach will take charge temporarily.
