The 24-year-old signed a multi-year contract in Germany on Saturday after AZ accepted a bid of around €3 million for their captain.
After completing the deal, Gouweleeuw told his agency SEG, “After a hectic week, during which I became a father again, I am very happy that I can sign for FC Augsburg”,
“I am looking forward to playing in one of the best leagues in Europe. Here I can continue my development by playing on a higher level.”
Gouweleeuw signed for AZ from Heerenveen in 2013 and made 87 league appearances for the club, scoring four times. AZ have confirmed that the signing of Ron Vlaar was made with the assumption that Gouweleeuw was leaving.
