October had been a rotten month for Groningen, with Erwin van de Looi’s side failing to win any of their three league matches during the month, but November started a lot better as they took the lead after only two minutes against NAC Breda.
Tjarron Chery burst into the NAC box and sent a weak shot towards goal, but despite seeming like an easy save for Jelle ten Rouwelaar, the ball squeezed under the goalkeeper and into the net.
Chery and striker Dino Islamovic came close to doubling the home side’s lead with efforts from range, while at the other end Jeffrey Sarpong just missed the target with a free kick just before the break.
After half time NAC Breda put pressure on the Groningen goal, but they could not take any of their chances. Mats Seuntjens, Erik Falkenburg and Mimoun Mahi all tested Sergio Padt, but the home side held on.
The win lifts Groningen up to 7th in the table while NAC Breda sit 16th.
