Groningen have their third win of the season after Tom van Weert’s goal gave them a 2-1 victory over ADO Den Haag.

hateboer-fofofErnest Faber stated this week that he wouldn’t drop Hans Hateboer after the right back refused to sign a new deal and announced his decision to leave the club. The decision proved to be crucial with Hateboer opening the scoring in the 10th minute with a volley past Ernestas Setkus from Etienne Reijnen’s header down.

The hosts continued to dominate after the opener but they couldn’t find a second goal with Tom van Weert, Simon Tibbling and Reijnen all passing up good opportunities. Just before the break, ADO Den Haag punished Gronigen for their misses with Eduard Duplan firing past Sergio Padt after the goalkeeper failed to get distance on his punch.

Ten minutes into the second half, Groningen regained their lead as Reijnen’s measured cross was met by Van Weert, who finished well past Setkus.

Both sides then created chances to add further goals but the match finished 2-1. A result that moves Groningen up to 13th, while ADO Den Haag are 11th.
