FC Groningen have confirmed the summer signing of Fortuna Sittard centre-back Wessel Dammers.

Groningen are losing Mike te Wierik to Derby County this summer and needed to find a new central defender.

The club confirmed on Friday that Wessel Dammers has agreed a three-year deal. He will join on a free transfer from Fortuna Sittard in the summer.

Dammers began his career as a striker for Feyenoord but was converted into a centre-back and joined Fortuna Sittard in 2017. The 25-year-old has since made 72 appearances for the club.
