Groningen are up to eighth in the Eredivisie after a slender 1-0 victory over ADO Den Haag.

After an upturn in form since the winter break, Groningen are in the running for a European playoff spot.

Against ADO Den Haag they dominated from the start but Kaj Sierhuis and Mimoun Mahi wasted early chances. Eventually in the 31st minute the hosts had the lead thanks to an own goal from Lex Immers.

Looking for their first victory since mid-December, ADO Den Haag almost equalised in the second half when John Goossens raced in on goal but Sergio Padt pulled off an excellent save.

After that miss Groningen regained control and through Ritsu Doan and Mahi they had chances for more goals. However, in the end one was enough.

Groningen are now eighth heading into the international break while ADO Den Haag are 13th and only three points above the drop zone.
