Groningen’s ended their Europa league campaign on Thursday with a 0-0 draw with Braga.

van de looiGroningen’s chances of qualifying from their first ever Europa League group stage campaign may have been ended a while ago, but Edwin van de Looi’s side were determined to put on a show in their final game.

The home side dominated the first half, with Danny Hoesen going close twice, while Albert Rusnak slipped a shot just wide of the post. At the other end Braga captain Alan forced Sergio Padt into a great reflex save.

After the break Simon Tibbling was inches away from breaking the deadlock, before Braga started to take control and Padt was called into action again to deny Wilson Eduardo and Crislin. The match eventually came to an end with neither side able to find the net.

Braga finish as group winners, while Groningen are forced to settle for bottom, without a win or even a goal in their own stadium during the campaign.
