Sven van Beek’s first half own-goal was enough to hand Groningen a 1-0 victory over Feyenoord in the Euroborg.

From the first minute, Groningen were on top and Kenneth Vermeer had to prevent Sven van Beek scoring an own goal before he kept out a Ritsu Doan effort.

In the 26th minute it was 1-0 to the hosts thanks to van Beek, who worked Thomas Bruns cross into his own net. It was his sixth own-goal in a Feyenoord shirt, which is a joint Eredivisie record.

Nicolas Jorgensen was reinstated to the Feyenoord line-up and he went close with a header, but other than that Groningen were comfortable.

Mimoun Mahi, Samir Memisevic, Iliass Bel Hassani and Kaj Sierhuis all passed up decent chances to make it 2-0. Sam Larsson and Yassin Ayoub were brought on by Giovanni van Bronkhorst but neither could inspire a comback.

The victory lifts Groningen to ninth, while Feyenoord are still third but only two points above AZ Alkmaar.
