Groningen can still hope of a top ten finish after hammering Excelsior 4-0 in their final home game of the season.

The home side took control from the start but had to wait until the 41st minute to take the lead with Tom van Weert netting after some fine play by Juninho Bacuna.

Just before the break, it was 2-0 for Groningen with Samir Memisevic finding the net with a header.

Excelsior improved in the second half, but could find know way back into the game and Groningen finished them off in the latter stages. Ritsu Doan punished an error by Ögmundur Kristinsson in the 70th minute before Van Weert added his second before the end.

Groningen move up to 12th in the table and only three points behind Excelsior who sit 10th.
