Speaking to the Newspaper of the North, general manager Hans Nijland said, “A club in Shanghai wanted him, but then he had to join immediately as the transfer window there closes on July 31st.”

Nijland also went on to say that with the sales of former players Tim Matavz, Luis Suraez and Dusan Tadic there has been an influx of more than 2 million euros at the club and the club do not need to sell any players.

Cherry scored 7 goals for the club in 31 Eredivisie games last season.
