Groningen finally have their first win of the season after hammering Utrecht 5-1 on Friday evening.

gron-utre-idrBoth sides went into the game without a victory so far but it was visitors Groningen who took the initiative in the first half as Oussama Idrissi netted twice. Firstly on thirteen minutes a poor pass from Ramon Leeuwin set the winger through on goal and he fooled Menno Koch before firing past Robbin Ruiter. On the stroke of half time Idrissi added his second with a great strike into the top corner.

Early in the second half the home side threatened a comeback with ex-Groningen striker Richairo Zivkovic netting against his former club. The striker latched onto a through ball, shrugged off his marker and finished past Sergio Padt. However, five minutes later Danny Hoesen raced through on goal, rounded Ruiter and slotted into an empty net to make it 3-1 for Groningen.

Tom van Weert appeared from the bench to add a fourth for Groningen before Hoesen completed the rout in the final minute.

The win moves Groningen to 13th, but its now six games without a win for Utrecht and they are second bottom.
