Groningen have strengthened their squad with the arrival of two new players on Thursday.

Groningen have brought in Ahmed El Messaoudi from KV Mechelen on a three-year deal. The midfielder spent last season on loan with Fortuna Sittard and made a good impression in Limburg with five goals and two assists.

Twenty-year-old attacker Joel Asoro also comes in on loan from Swansea City with an option to buy.

Groningen director Mark-Jan Fledderus told the club’s website, “He is known as a great talent in Sweden and has already made the switch to England at a very young age, where he first did excellent at Sunderland.

“Joel consciously chooses FC Groningen, where it is proven that young talents can develop well and can take the next step in their career. With us he gets the chance to show his talent and then it’s up to him to convince all of us. ”
