Groningen have announced the signing of Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Sam Schreck on a four-year deal.

The 20-year-old only made two Europa League appearances for Bayer Leverkusen and has been deemed surplus to requirements by Peter Bosz.

Schreck was unveiled by Groningen on a contract until 2023 on Friday morning and will join his new teammates at training on Monday.

Groningen technical director Mark-Jan Fledderus told the club’s website, “Sam is a versatile midfielder with a great dribbling capacity. He is known in Germany as a great talent that has gone through all German national youth teams up to and including the under-20.

“Last season Schreck was a member of the first selection of Bayer Leverkusen. We see him as a player with a lot of potential and we are happy that we were able to tie him to FC Groningen for the next four years.”
