FC Groningen has confirmed the signing of Villarreal full-back Miguel Ángel Leal on a season-long loan deal.

The 23-year-old, who can play on the left or right hand side of defence, was part of Villarreal’s plans heading into the new season, but with his contract expiring they have allowed him to depart.

Leal joins Groningen on loan but there is an option to make the deal permanent.

The Spaniard has only made one appearance for Villarreal in the Copa Del Rey and spent last season with the B team.
