Fankaty Dabo’s crazy own-goal helped Groningen on to a 4-2 win over Vitesse Arnhem.

Groningen went into the game without a win since September, and it seemed they were on their way to another disappointing afternoon when Kasper Larsen helped Thomas Bruns shot into his own net.

However, on the hour mark, Chelsea loanee Fankaty Dabo scored a crazy own-goal of his own as the right back curled an effort over goalkeeper Jeroen Houwen from the sideline.

Tim Matavz quickly restored Vitesse’s lead from the penalty spot, but Groningen rallied and levelled through substitute Oussama Idrissi, who sent a shot past Houwen from the edge of the area.

With 12 minutes to go, Mimoun Mahi found the bottom corner with a lovely volley at the back post to put Groningen in front before Tom van Weert converted from close range to seal the victory.

Young Groningen midfielder Ludovit Reis got his second yellow card before the end, but Vitesse didn’t have enough time to make a comeback.

The win lifts Groningen up to 13th while Vitesse are 6th.
