The 23-year-old forward would not renew his expiring contract in Alkmaar, and has instead chosen to move back to England on a two-year-deal.
Gudmundsson had spells in both Chelsea and Fulham’s youth academies before a move to AZ back in 2009. The winger has been a regular for the Eredivisie side, racking up 168 appearances over the past five years, scoring 25 goals.
The Icelandic international told Charlton’s official website, “I’m excited to be here,”
“It’s a new challenge for me and I can’t wait to start training with the lads.
“I heard of the interest a few weeks ago and obviously I’m on a free transfer so there were a lot of things happening, but in the end I decided to go with Charlton.
“It’s a great club with a good history and I think we are building something good here.”
