German side Hamburg have confirmed the signing of Dutch defender Timo Letschert from Sassuolo.

The 26-year-old joined Sassuolo in 2016 from Utrecht but his move to Italy was not a success. He was loaned back to Utrecht last season and has now made the switch to Hamburg.

Letschert has signed a one-year deal with the German Bundesliga 2 side and becomes a teammate of fellow countryman Rick van Drongelen.

Letschert told the Hamburg website, “I feel that this is the right step in my career and I am very happy that I am now at HSV. I also spoke with Rick van Drongelen about the club and the fans, he was very enthusiastic and only told positive stories. That was extra motivating for me.”
