The 42-year-old has been coaching League one side Burton Albion since November last year, but the BBC is reporting that QPR have had an approach accepted and can now open talks with Hasselbaink.
With Hasselbaink in charge Burton Albion won the League two championship title last season and the club are currently leading League one by two points.
QPR have been on the lookout for a new coach since sacking Chris Ramsey on the 4th of November. The club is aiming for promotion to the Premier League this season and are hoping that the former Chelsea and Atletico Madrid striker is the man to guide them back.
Hasselbaink would be the third Dutchman at the London club, with Leroy Fer and Tjarron Chery both contracted at Loftus Road.
