Under the guidance of new coach Zeljko Petrovic for the first time, ADO Den Haag dominated from the start and could have been ahead early on but Edouard Duplan headed wide after nine minutes. The Frenchman then earned his side a penalty five minutes later when he was bundled over in the box and Mike Havenaar slammed in his first goal of the season from the spot.
Havenaar should have had another penalty before the break but was instead booked for diving when it looked like he was dragged to the ground by Go Ahead defender Sander Fischer.
After more pressure and missed chances at the start of the second half, ADO Den Haag eventually made it 2-0 in the 70th minute as Mike Havenaar headed in Ruben Schaken’s cross at the back post. Tyronne Ebuehi then sealed ADO Den Haag’s win before the end from close range to wrap up an excellent start for Petrovic. For Go Ahead Eagles it was a difficult return to the Eredivisie and a major improvement will be needed to prevent a relegation battle.
