Vitesse Arnhem failed to close the gap on the top three as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Heerenveen.

The away side went into the match on the back of their turbulent exit from the KNVB Cup, which saw them finish the tie against Heracles with eight men before losing 4-1 in extra-time. However Peter Bosz’s side showed no signs of tiredness as they dominated the first half, with Erwin Mulder having to make great stops from Milot Raschica and Dominik Solanke before the break, while Lewis Baker had a goal disallowed for offside.
Heerenveen’s best chance came after the hour mark after a slip by Vitesse goalkeeper Eloy Room, but Luciano Slagveer couldn’t take advantage with the goal gaping.
Mitchell Te Vrede returned for the home side, but the attacker couldn’t break the deadlock and both sides had to settle for a point. Vitesse move up a place to sixth with a point, while Heerenveen stay 11th.
