The first real chances of the first half fell to Heerenveen, but Jeroen Zoet produced good saves to deny Luciano Slagveer and Sam Larsson.
PSV then peppered the home side’s goal with Luuk de Jong and Davy Propper both seeing efforts cleared off the line, while Belgian winger Maxime Lestienne screwed shots wide twice when through on goal. Lestienne nearly broke the deadlock before the break, but his shot was tipped onto the post by Erwin Mulder.
Ten minutes into the second half Heerenveen were awarded a penalty for holding in the box by Propper, and Canar Cavlan beat Zoet to fire the Frisian’s ahead. However PSV drew level on 66 minutes as a long ball by Andres Guardado was flicked into the path of De Jong by Adam Maher, and the striker finished well past Mulder.
Luciano Narsingh passed up an opportunity when one on one with Mulder, while substitute Gaston Pereiro fired straight at the keeper after a jinking run.
PSV have now doubled the amount of draws they had last season after only three games, and could move four points behind Ajax, who face NEC on Sunday. Heerenveen also sit on five points after their second draw in three games.
