immFeyenoord had the lead after only nine minute, as Jean Paul Boetius brilliantly chipped the ball over Kristoffer Nordfeldt after the keeper had initially stopped Graziano Pelle’s effort.

It was 2-0 on 17 minutes after Lex Immers fired through Nordfeldt after being picked out by Ruben Schaken’s cross from the right.

Heerenveen battled back and made it 2-1 just before the break with Kenny Otigba heading in from a cross.

Immers had a great chance to extend Feyenoord’s lead early in the second half, but he could not beat Nordfeldt when one on one with the keeper, who also stopped Boetius netting the rebound.

Heerenveen pushed for an equaliser, with Finnbogason missing their best chance in injury time, as the forward dragged his shot wide with a clear sight of goal.

Feyenoord remain 4th with the win, and stay six points behind leaders Vitesse, while Heerenveen sit 8th.
