Heerenveen got off to the perfect start after four minutes when left back Caner Cavlan raced to the byline before seeing his cross put into his own net by defender Wessel Dammers.
Two minutes later Cambuur nearly equalised but Edwin Mulder pulled off a great save to deny Sander van de Streek, and at the other end Leonard Nienhuis was equal to Mitchel te Vrede’s header.
On the half hour mark Heerenveen were awarded a penalty when referee Richard Liesveld decided Djavan Andersen’s high leg on Cavlan was a foul, although replays showed their was no contact. Te Vrede slotted in from the spot to make it 2-0 for the hosts.
After the break Heerenveen created several chances, but Cavlan, Te Vrede and Kenny Otigba couldn’t add a third goal, while Cambuur midfielder Jack Bryne hit the bar with a free kick.
The win rises Heerenveen to thirteenth place, while Cambuur remain second bottom.
