A late goal by Leon de Kogel earned Go Ahead Eagles an unexpected 2-2 draw against Heerenveen.

The hosts were hoping to use the tie to get their challenge for fourth back on track and they went closest to opening the scoring early on with Pelle van Amersfoort hitting the post.

However, just after the half hour mark Go Ahead Eagles stunned the home crowd by taking the lead through Sam Hendriks. The striker saw his first effort saved by Erwin Mulder, but followed up to net on the second attempt.

After the break, Heerenveen went in search for the equaliser, with Reza Ghoochannejhad forcing Theo Zwarthoed into two good saves. Finally on 65 minutes, Henk Veerman fired Heerenveen level after bustling his way through two challenges in the box.

Five minutes after the equaliser, Martin Ødegaard came up with a magnificent through ball to set Luciano Slagveer on goal and the winger slotted the ball into the net to put Heerenveen ahead. It seemed the hosts were going to bag all three points but with a minute left, Mulder fumbled a cross which allowed Leon De Kogel to net an equaliser.

The point means Heerenveen are seventh while Go Ahead Eagles are still in 18th but have gained what could be a valuable point in the road to safety.
