Five goals in the first half ensured Feyenoord remain joint top of the Eredivisie as they hammered Heerenveen at the Abe Lenstra Stadion.

gustaf kuytFeyenoord lost their last two trips to Heerenveen, but a stunning first half performances which saw Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side net five times in 39 minutes ensured the three points would return to Rotterdam.

After only seven minutes Feyenoord had the lead with Simon Gustafson stealing the ball in midfield before racing towards the box and setting up Dirk Kuyt to fire past Erwin Mulder. On 16 minutes another fine team move by Feyenoord ended with Gustafson heading down for Michiel Kramer to slot in a second goal.

Gustafson then capped a terrific first half performance by smashing Kramer’s cross past Mulder to make it 3-0 just before the half hour mark.

Dirk Kuyt then netted twice in seven minutes to complete a hat-trick as Heerenveen’s defence fell apart, firstly finishing off Eljero Elia’s pass with the help of a deflection before stabbing Gustafson’s corner into the net from close range.

Feyenoord took their foot of the gas in the second half which allowed Heerenveen to push forward and before the end striker Henk Veerman pulled back two consolation goals.

Feyenoord remain level on points with Ajax at the top, while Heerenveen slide to 14th.
